Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 4 hours of collection if stored at room temperature or 12 hours if specimen is refrigerated.
Container/Tube: 4 mL Lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) or 2 mL Lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s)
Specimen: 2 mL (minimum) of
EDTA whole blood or 1 mL
(minimum) of EDTA whole blood
Collection Instructions: Immediately invert 5
times to mix blood

The ESR is a nonspecific measurement used to detect and monitor an inflammatory response to tissue injury (an acute-phase response).

Males
0-15 years: 0-10 mm/hour
16-50 years: 0-15 mm/hour
≥51 years: 0-20 mm/hour
Females
0-15 years: 0-10 mm/hour
16-50 years: 0-20 mm/hour
≥51 years: 0-30 mm/hour
