This test is useful for assessing NK (natural killer) cell percentages and numbers and it assists in the evaluation of immunodeficiency.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Whole Blood
Container/Tube: Green top (sodium heparin)
Specimen Volume: 4 mL (1 mL pediatric minimum)
Collection Instructions: Specimen must arrive at National Jewish within 24 hours of collection.
DO NOT CENTRIFUGE.
CBC results within 3 days of draw must also be provided or a lavender top tube included with required specimen(s) to run CBC at ADx.
On Fridays, sample MUST arrive at ADx before 1:00pm.
Specimen Rejection: Frozen, clotted, hemolyzed, spun down, citrate anticoagulant (blue top)
