BCH Order Code LAB3218 Vaginosis Pathogen Panel PCR
Reporting Title
Vaginosis Pathogen Panel PCR
Useful For
The Aptima BV assay reports a single qualitative result that targets Lactobacillus species, Gardnerella vaginalis and Atopobium vaginae. The Aptima CV/TV assay detects Candida species, Candida glabrata and Trichomonas. C. glabrata is reported separately when detected to allow for appropriate selection of antifungal therapy.
Performing Laboratory
Boulder Community Health
Specimen Requirements
ContainerTube: Aptima Multitest Swab
Specimen: Vaginal swab
NOTE: This same specimen can be used for Neisseria gonorrhea and Chlamydia trachomatis testing
Specimen Collection: Refer to the specimen collection kit package insert for specific cllection instructtions.
NOTE: Handle all specimens as if they contain potentially infectious agents. Use Universal Precautions and wear appropriate PPE. Avoid splashing and cross-contamination.
Specimen Transport Temperature
After collection, store specimens at 2C to 30C.
Methodology
PCR
Reference Values
BV Result: Negative
Candida species: Negative
Candida glabrata: Negative
Trichomonas: Negative
BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS INTERPRETIVE INFORMATION: A negative result does not preclude a possible infection. A single qualitative result is determined based on relative amounts of the following bacterial vaginosis organisms: Lactobacillus (L. gasseri, L. crispatus, and L. jensenii), Gardnerella vaginalis, and Atopobium vaginae. This assay does not report individual organisms.
CANDIDA AND TRICHOMONAS INTERPRETIVE INFORMATION: Candida species and Trichomonas by TMA. A negative result does not preclude a possible infection. This test detects Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida glabrata, and other Candida species (C. albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. dubliniensis, and C. tropicalis). The assay does not differentiate among organisms in the Candida species group.
Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical data. This test has not been validated for use with specimens collected by patients at home. This test is intended for medical purposes only and is not valid for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or for other forensic purposes.
