Serum and whole blood are required for this panel.
Blood for ABO Blood Type, Antibody Screen (Indirect Coombs), CBC With Differential, and Rh(D) Type
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s) and send 4 mL of EDTA whole blood. Immediately invert several times to mix blood.
Note: Label specimen appropriately (EDTA whole blood for ABO blood type, antibody screen [indirect Coombs], CBC with differential, and Rh[D] type).
Serum for RPR and Rubella
Draw blood in a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 2 mL of serum refrigerated. Moderate amounts of hemolysis or lipemia will not interfere.
Note: Label specimen appropriately (serum for RPR and rubella).
Serum for HBsAg
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated. If there is a delay in shipment of >5 days or if mailing time exceeds 5 days, send specimen frozen in plastic vial.
Note: 1. Draw date is required on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum for HBsAg).
