Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Swab

Sources: Active cutaneous or mucocutaneous oral, dermal, genital or eye lesions

Container/Tube: Sterile container with Universal Transport Media (UTM) or equivalent viral transport media

Collection Instructions: Vigorously rub swab over active lesion/vesicle and place swab in container with transport media.

 

Specimen stable 48 hours at room temperature or 7 days refrigerated or frozen.
